Warren Zevon Concerts: The List

DiG’s Warren Zevon Collection as of 12/18/2012

To say I am a big Warren Zevon fan is something of an understatement. I’ve had the honor of seeing Warren perform live six times, twice at Tower Theatre, three times at Chestnut Cabaret and once at the Bayou. I got to meet him after a show and he couldn’t have been nicer, even signing my liner notes to Sentimental Hygiene!

Since those halcyon days, I have accumulated over a hundred of Warren’s live concerts on tape and CD – legally, I might add, thanks to the kind efforts of Jordan Zevon at WarrenZevon.com.

The list below signifies as complete a list as I’ve been able to cobble together over the years of Warren Zevon albums, concerts and radio interviews. Many of my internet references have since disappeared, so much of the accuracy will have to be taken on faith that I am as obsessively detail oriented as I appear to be (the skeptical might want to scroll down to see what I mean). So caveat emptor, folks.

I’ve tried to include useful links where appropriate – Wikipedia for basic info, iTunes for albums, and Archive.org for nearly 100 free and legal Warren Zevon concert downloads.  The green listings? Those are concerts I don’t own in any form, but would love to track down some day, if you get my hint.

Questions? Comments? Leave ’em all the way at the bottom or e-mail me at dig@typingmonkeys.com.

I’m a huge Zevon fan starting back in the 1970’s… When I saw this list I thought maybe the author(s) or some readers could help to jog my memory.

I never got to see Zevon in concert because he cancelled the only time he was set to perform in my home state of Oklahoma….

I believe he was slated to appear at the Boomer Theater in Norman around 1980 or so. Anyone remember this cancellation?

I think you’re missing one of his concerts at Alice Cooperstown 4/1/2000 with Jill Sobule. I was there and it was awesome!!

Hi, stumbled upon this site by accident, wondering why it took me so long…

SOMEWHERE I have a tape of the following concert:

1985 10/30 – Columbus OH: Newport Music Hall

Now, I’m not sure where it is exactly, or if it’s playable, but I might be persuaded to search around a bit if I knew there might be a small financial incentive?

    Thanks,

    SWM

Hi Dig- been obsessed today trying to find any video of the awesome W.Z. concert I attended at !st Ave. in Mpls…tho I don’t recall if it was the 1988 or 1990 one…I do remember Timothy Schmidt played with him…I woke up this morning with the song “I can’t Tell You Why” and memories of that concert…W.Z. in a white shirt and suspenders…any help in archiving would be appreciated.
    LOVE Warren Zevon

I am a big Warren Zevon fan, but never got to see him in Canada.

I was attending school in Golden Colorado 1992-94 and Mr Zevon was scheduled to play at the Buffalo Rose Saloon in Golden. I was one Excit(able)ed Boy. I can’t remember exactly when this was but “1994 03/06 – Aspen CO: Wheeler Opera House” seems to be about the right time.

Alas the show was cancelled and I never did get to see him perform. One of the biggest disappointments of my life.

Gah, I copied the wrong date. I meant to reference “1992 02/03 – Boulder CO: Boulder Theater”, as Golden is only about 40 miles down the road from Boulder.

Sometime in the summer of 1985, Warren Zevon played an unscheduled (I think) show (by himself -no accompaniment) at the Fast & Cool bar in Dallas, TX. Some friends who knew I was a fan alerted me. Me and a friend went in hours before the show to buy tickets backstage. My buddy walked up the hallway to the stage entrance where Warren was doing a sound check playing Roland…For the show, I sat at the bar directly side-stage about 25 feet from him, and it was one of the musical highlights of my life. He mentioned that he just wrote Boom Boom Mancini the week before and was playing it for the first time that night.

I thought I remembered seeing Warren Zevon live at San Diego State, probably in the mid to late 1970s. But, that is the problem with getting old – the memory goes. I know I saw him live twice, and I have a tee shirt from the Sentimental Hygiene Tour. I think I saw him in the LA area for that. Does anyone remember if he played at San Diego State? He is one of my two favorite artists, both ‘Zs’, Zevon and Zappa/
